Abingdon Internal Medicine is an independent primary care practice in Abingdon, VA. This means we are not corporate healthcare. We have been serving the community for over 30 years. Our team of experienced doctors and medical professionals are dedicated to delivering comprehensive, personalized care to patients thirteen years of age and up.

Our Providers
Our providers have over 50 years of combined experience in providing high-quality, patient-centered care in Abingdon and throughout the region. In addition, AIM is supported by a dedicated staff of medical professionals who share our commitment to excellence.
- Jennifer Jonkers, M.D. received her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA and has over 20 years experience in primary care and hospital medicine. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and correspondingly provides care for patients 13 years of age and up.
- Amy Almany, FNP-C received her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University in Chicago, IL. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and correspondingly provides care for patients 13 years of age and up.
- Joe M. Rupe, M.D. received his medical degree from The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA and has over 25 years of experience in primary care and hospital medicine. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine and subsequently provides care for patients 18 years of age and up.
Our Staff
We are staffed by full time, licensed LPNs and RNs, who work closely with each provider to provide a team based approach. Additionally, clinical pharmacists assist our team with care such as chronic disease management. Furthermore, a full time referral specialist is dedicated to arranging referral appointments and diagnostic studies. Similarly, in-house billing specialists ensure that a real, live person is available regarding any insurance or billing related issues. Finally, on-site phlebotomists and lab services add to your convenience. As an independent practice, we know the value of having local and accessible services.
